This Woman is Dangerous - A Great Joan Crawford Noir
Joan Crawford made a lot of wonderful Noir films - her most famous, of course, is Mildred Pierce. But she was also the tough heroine with a tender heart in several other classic Noir jewels, like The Damned Don't Cry, Sudden Fear, Flamingo Road, Possessed, and This Woman is Dangerous.
In this film, she is mixed up with a gang of attractive but ruthless criminals - David Brian, her boyfriend, his brother, Philip Carey, and his brother's wife, Mari Aldon. Then Joan's character, Beth, is sent to a handsome doctor, Dennis Morgan, after her eyes start to fail her. She falls for the doctor, and he and his daughter, played by Sherry Jackson, fall for her, too.
The criminal boyfriend complicates Beth's situation, as she tries to escape her sordid past. There's a wild shootout in a viewer's gallery at the hospital where the doctor is performing an operation, and it ends with a bit of hope and promise.
Joan and David Brian had a great chemistry; their scenes together always have an underlying heat to them that is fun to watch.
I like gritty, realistic Film Noir, but I also get a kick out of these glossy Noir films. They are very well produced, and the cinematography is sometimes stunning. Plus, the acting is always top rate! It's a suspenseful, satisfying film.
