The Unsuspected - A Stylish Film Noir
The Unsuspected has a stellar cast - Claude Rains, Audrey Totter,Constance Bennett, Hurd Hatfield, Joan Caulfield, Fred Clark and an actor I've only seen in this film, Michael North.
Radio host Victor Grandison (Claude Rains) tells tales of murder and mayhem to his beguiled listeners, all while plotting some murders and mayhem of his own. His circle of relations and friends have no idea what secrets Victor is keeping, until his perfect plans start to unravel. I won't give away the details but this is an exciting, intense film with incredible style, atmosphere and grandeur plus it manages to have a couple of wild car chases that'll make your heart stop!
The characters are sophisticated and beautifully attired. Joan Caulfield wears a white dress in one scene that is stunning. Constance Bennett and Audrey Totter wear some dramatic and gorgeous gowns. And that mansion where most of the action takes place is the stuff of dreams. But none of that distracts you from the complicated story. It's written well and directed with his usual flair by Michael Curtiz. Just a perfect, stylish Film Noir!
